Special search engines

Besides the classic search engines like Google and Bing, there are also special offers for certain use cases or search engines with other focuses. This exercise introduces some of these services.

Preparation

All you need for preparation is a PC and an Internet connection. Alternatively, this exercise can also take place on a tablet or smartphone.

The exercise sheets serve as additional support and stimulation.

Method / Process description

The participants are given the task of familiarizing themselves with the individual Internet services. They are to test and evaluate the individual search engines and services.

  • For what purpose is the respective service useful?
  • Does the tested internet service have advantages over a classic search engine like Google?
  • How does the quality of the search results compare to other services?
  • The participants should first draw their own conclusions from their observations and then share these with the group.

Specific research tasks can also be assigned to individual participants or groups.
