Access rights of apps

The aim of this lesson is to develop an awareness of what rights individual apps have on the smartphone or tablet (e.g. access to the camera, microphone, GPS, diary, etc.).

Preparation

A tablet or smartphone is required for preparation.
An internet connection is not mandatory.

Method / Process description

This lesson can be done individually.

However, it is recommended to do it in smaller groups so that participants can share their insights and support each other.

Task:

  1. Get an overview of how many and which apps you currently have installed on your device.
  2. Check the permissions of individual apps
  3. Evaluate whether the requested permissions of the respective apps are necessary or whether some of them can be removed. Control question: Why does this app need the permissions?
  4. Can you find apps that you do not use? Consider removing the apps or at least restricting their permissions.
