Preparation

This activity requires a device that can connect to a Wi-Fi network (e.g. smartphone, tablet or laptop).

At least one Wi-Fi network must be available. Ideally, the teacher should provide other Wi-Fi networks in advance so that participants can switch to the different networks during the exercise. 

Method / Process description

After a technical introduction to the topic, the participants should connect to the available WLAN. 

Contents that should be discussed in the technical introduction: 

•     Basic principle of a WLAN
•     WLAN security (open and closed WLAN networks)
•     Influence on connection strength
•     Dangers (especially with open networks)

In order to test different networks, it is a good idea to make different networks available. This can also be done, for example, by providing a so-called hotspot via a smartphone.
