Social media - Well-known social media platforms
Globally, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube are among the top ten most used, social media and are primarily used to share information. Whether posting, sharing or retweeting, news goes viral with a click.
In this exercise, participants will explore a variety of social media platforms. Who uses them? Which social media platforms are suitable for which topics? Etc.
Preparation
All you need to prepare is a PC, smartphone and an internet connection to look up information from the internet.
Lecture on the topic of "Social Media Platforms":
- The lecture should only give a brief insight into the world of social media platforms. The teacher could show statistics on which social media platforms are at the top of the rankings nationally and internationally.
The exercise sheets serve as additional support and stimulation.
Method / Process description
The participants are given the task of familiarizing themselves with the topic of social media platforms. A brief input on social media platforms is given as an introduction to the topic. The aim is to point out which social media platforms are at the top of the national and international rankings. After a short intro by the teacher, a worksheet is handed out.
The participants work on the following topics:
- Which social media platforms are there?
- Gathering information on social media platforms with regard to the following
criteria:
- User numbers worldwide
- User numbers worldwide
- Target groups
- Features
- Topics and content
- Advantages and disadvantages
- Data security
- Data privacy
Afterwards, the participants should design a handout and give an overview of at least five social media platforms.
Following this, participants can discuss their findings in small groups and draw their own conclusions from their observations and from the discussion with the others.
