First insights into the world of collaborative working

When searching for collaboration tools on the Internet, it quickly becomes clear that there is no shortage of tools. The question is rather which functions the tools should provide in order to be able to collaborate successfully on a virtual level, set appointments, conduct meetings and the like.

In this exercise, the participants will get to know and try out various collaboration tools.

Preparation

To prepare, all you need is a PC, smartphone and an Internet connection to look up information from the Internet.

Presentation on "Collaboration Tools". The presentation should include the following:

  • Possibly a short historical outline of the development of collaboration tools.
  • An overview of the areas in which collaboration tools can be used
  • Introduction to a tool from the areas: conferencing, collaborative writing;

The exercise sheets serve as additional support and stimulation.

Method / Process description

The participants are given the task of familiarizing themselves with the topic of collaboration tools.

As an introduction to the topic, a short input about collaboration tools will be given. The participants will learn which collaboration tools are available and for what purpose, as well as an introduction to a tool from the field of collaborative writing.

After this short intro by the teacher, a list of collaboration tools that can be used for good collaboration is handed out. The participants should now prepare individual tools, which are best assigned by the teacher.

  • Mindmapping
  • Massage boards to share appointments and tasks
  • File sharing tools to store and access shared documents
  • Appointment finding tools to organize meetings, appointment polls, etc.
  • Collaborative-Writing Tools
  • Digital tools for Conferencing
  • Digital tools for Project Management

Participants are now tasked with working together in plenary to create learning sheets that include how to register with each tool provider and instructions on how to use them. All participants will be given different tools to work with. The goal is to create a small compendium that provides a good overview of each tool.

For this, the teacher provides a template (title, short introduction, table of contents, ...), which the learners use.

In order to be able to work well together, the following tool must have been introduced by the teacher in advance and each participant must have access to this tool:

  • Collaborative Writing Tool

The teacher supports the participants in the development of their respective tools and intervenes with corrections.

The participants should first get a good overview of collaboration tools and learn about working together through collaborative writing.
