Hard- and Software

Participants should understand the difference between hardware and software. What are device manufacturers and what are operating systems?

Preparation

At the beginning, the teacher should familiarise him/herself with the target image. Otherwise, no special preparations are necessary.

Method / Process description

In this exercise, participants should become aware of the differences between device manufacturers and the individual operating systems.

The exercise can be done in plenary or as a group exercise. However, it is important to discuss the target picture once with the whole group to clarify any open questions.

Important findings of this exercise:

  • The distinction between the Apple world and the Windows or Android world.
  • Understanding that Android by Google is an operating system that runs on the devices of almost all manufacturers (e.g. Samsung, HTC, etc.).
  • The distinction between Google as the manufacturer, Android as the operating system and Google Chrome as the internet browser app or software.
  • The distinction between Windows systems from Apple and Android devices.
