c1 Technology is Everywhere
Introduction
"Look around you... Technology dominates our lives and the world. More than 4.1 billion people now use the Internet..." The above quote is from the video "Did you know? 2019", which you can find on YouTube. The video shows current figures on how many people use the Internet, how many search queries we make, how many messages we send, etc.
Of course, technology does not completely determine our lives, but it does influence important aspects of our daily lives: new ways of communicating, sharing things, digital identity, seeking and offering help, feeling safe, etc. Technology enables us to build relationships with our friends, family and friends and other communities in new ways. We become citizens of the digital world. The basis for this is knowledge of technologies and basic technological skills. In this chapter, we would like to introduce you to these skills, show you how they came into being and explain what purpose they serve and where their limitations lie.
