Cyberbullying - can affect anyone

Communication options via social media as well as messenger services with smartphones and on the Internet have become increasingly important in recent years. As useful and beneficial as these means of communication are, they also confront society with risks. Cyberbullying, in particular, is increasingly becoming the focus of public discussion.

In this exercise, learners will explore the terms and forms of cyberbullying and discuss factors that encourage cyberbullying.

Preparation

All you need to prepare is a PC, smartphone and an Internet connection to look up information from the Internet.

Short intro to the topic "Cyberbullying". The presentation should explain the following keywords:

  • Definition: cyberbullying
  • Forms of cyberbullying

The exercise sheets serve as additional support and stimulation.

Method / Process description

The participants will be given the task to familiarize themselves with the topic of cyberbullying.

To introduce the topic, a short input on cyberbullying will be given and the definition of cyberbullying will be clarified as well as the forms of cyberbullying will be introduced.

After this brief intro by the teacher, participants will be given a worksheet.

Participants will work on the following topics:

  • Current cases of cyberbullying in the media in recent years.
  • Categorizing cases of cyberbullying according to their forms.

The setting for the exercise can be an individual, pair or group work.

Afterwards, the participants should create a poster by summarizing the cyberbullying cases they found in key words and categorizing them according to the forms of cyberbullying.

Afterwards, the participants should compare and discuss their results with the others. The teacher does not moderate this sequence and only intervenes to correct.

The participants should first draw their own conclusions from their observations from the discussion with the others.
