Messenger services viewed critically
The purpose of this exercise is to take a closer look at the topic of "messenger services", especially which problems can arise from their use.
Preparation
To prepare, all you need is a PC, smartphone and an Internet connection to look up information from the Internet.
Lecture on the topic "Messenger services". The lecture should explain the following keywords:
- What are messenger services?
- What messenger services are there?
- Messenger services in criticism (data protection, data export outside the EU, etc.)
Method / Process description
The participants are given the task of familiarizing themselves with the topic of messenger services.
As an introduction to the topic, a short input on the topic of "messenger services" is given. This should point out factors why the use of messenger services can be problematic from a data protection perspective.
The teacher divides the group into groups. Different settings are possible depending on the size of the group:
Variant A: Each participant works on all topics.
Variant B: Not all participants work on one topic.
Variant C: The participants are divided into groups and each group works on one topic.
Then the following topics are worked on:
- What messenger services are there?
- What problems can arise from the use of messenger?
- Are there messenger service providers that advertise that they are more secure than others?
- Why do providers of messenger services profit from this, even if they are available free of charge?
- Participants can research this on the Internet.
The information should be compiled and then worked out in the form of a handout.
