About Filter Bubbles and Social Bots

In this exercise, learners learn about the basic mechanisms of filter bubbles and become familiar with terms such as social bots.  

Preparation

The exercise does not require much preparation. However, it is a good idea for the learner to deal with the topic extensively in order to be able to answer any questions the learner may have.  

Method / Process description

To start the respective topic, it is a good idea to briefly check the learners' current level of knowledge. Afterwards, the topics can be deepened through the two exercise sheets. The exercise sheets can be discussed individually in writing or together in the plenary. 

Part1 About filter bubbles

  • The exercise sheet "Filter Bubbles" can be handed out as an introduction. 
    • The exercise sheet contains some information about filter bubbles and some questions. These can be discussed in writing individually or together in plenary. 
    • The exercises are taken from the offer for pupils for digital learning content of the association Mimikama.

Part 2 Social bots

  • The exercise sheet "Social Bots" can be handed out as an introduction. 
    • The exercise sheet contains some information on the topic of social bots as well as some questions. These can be discussed in writing individually or together in plenary. 
    • The exercises are taken from the offer for pupils for digital learning content of the association Mimikama.
  • Online game "BOT OR NOT
    • In the online game BOT OR NOT, the player starts a chat with another account. 
    • Each player has 60 seconds to ask the other account questions.
    • At the end, the player must decide whether the chat partner is a real person or a bot. If the chat partner is a real person, the player naturally also decides whether he or she has just chatted with a real person.
