c1 - Introducing Children to Digital Skills

Introduction

Parents play an important role in supporting their child's educational and career choices. It is therefore important that they understand the new requirements arising from digitization in the future world of work.

While in the past the repetition of work steps made experienced employees, in the future experts will make up that they can handle new situations. For people who prefer a stable work environment without major changes, this change could become a major challenge. Future generations will grow into this dynamic work environment, so it should be easier for them to adapt.

To date, the necessary skills have been addressed to varying degrees in schools. While self-organized learning and social skills are already being promoted in some places, there are still schools that adhere to traditional teaching models, such as frontal instruction, which does not adequately prepare children for the new challenges. To be well prepared for later life, families should therefore give their children additional support to develop the necessary skills. This does not require expensive tutoring, because many of these skills can simply be promoted in everyday life.
